FRC: Scorpio

Robot for the 2017 FIRST Robotic Competition, Steamworks. This was my first time I had such a large role in the team, where I ultimately found myself designing and wiring the entire robot. This year was incredibly valuable as there were plenty of mistakes I had committed that I have since learned from.

This robot (and our alliance members, of course) even momentarily broke the world record for highest scoring game during Quarterfinals 4 Match 2 at the 2017 Orange Country Regional. Match is embedded below.

Scorpio was an incredibly fast robot at a maximum speed of 18 feet per second, using an aggressively geared 4 CIM + 2 miniCIM drivetrain. Thermals were critical for this design to ensure endurance over a match, so great care was taken to disperse the heat of the motors using thermal transfer paste and custom heat sinks.
